UAE National Day is celebrated on December 2nd everywhere. It is a day when everyone in the United Arab Emirates remembers those who were responsible for the founding of the nations. The UAE National Day is observed every year and is known as the Spirit of the Union and marks the day of the incorporation of all its seven emirates into one nation. Who Made UAE National Day?

The formation of the UAE was the result of a meeting between Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum and Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan who took the decision to join hands to unite and invited the other gulf emirates to form part of the union.

The UAE National Day celebrations are centered around the theme of “Spirit of the Union'' which derives its inspiration from the later ruler Sheikh Zayed.  This theme is all about unity among the emirates and how they will together shape the nation’s destiny. The colors of the flag are:

1) Red depicting the Hashemite dynasty or the Ottoman Empire, denoting courage, bravery, blood, hardiness, strength and unity.

2) White, denoting the Umayyad dynasty which stands cleanliness, honesty, peace and purity.

3) Green, denoting the Fatimid dynasty or Rashidun Caliphate standing for prosperity, hope, joy, love and optimism.

4) Black, standing for the Abbasid dynasty which defeats enemies and strengthens.

What to do on UAE National Day?

1. Fireworks

Fireworks form an important part of the UAE National Day celebrations. These can be witnessed at the Zayed Heritage Festival, Madinat Zayed and Al Dahfra in Abu Dhabi and Burj Khalifa, La Mer, Global Village, Festival Mall and Al Seef in Dubai.

2. Parades

UAE National day sees a host of colorful parades that display the culture and traditions of the nation in a most vibrant way. These comprise floats, marching bands, drummers and traditionally dressed men and women participating in the dazzling parades.

3. Wearing Patriotic Colours 

One of the favourite activities carried out by the people of UAE on the occasion of its National Day is to dress up in the colours of the national flag.

4. Participating in Car Parades 

Car owners in UAE decorate their cars in the national colors and deck them with flowers and participate in grand car parades to celebrate UAE National Day.

Kids being kids love all the excitement that comes with the national day. There’s so much you can do with them on National Day.

1. Show them fireworks and pardes- Don’t the kids just love fireworks and parades. Luckily there are quite a few of them you can take them to in order to mark the National Day. These include the fireworks at Abu Dhabi’s Corniche, Al Ain, and Al Dafra.

2. Participating in contests with a patriotic themes-Let your children participate in patriotic poetry, painting and singing competitions. They will have all the fun in the world. 

3. Take them on a family picnic- You can go on a family picnic with your children on the occasion of the National Day.

4. Go on a cycling adventure-Deck up your bicycles with the national flag and go on a little cycling adventure with your children. Let them revel in the outdoors and feel joy on the occasion of the National Day
